In the artist's words

Hajar Alblooshi is an Emirati contemporary porcelain artist born in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Her multidisciplinary practice encompasses porcelain painting, sculpture, and installation, examining the dynamic relationship between cultural heritage, material experimentation, and contemporary artistic expression.

Her artistic journey began seven years ago, when she first started painting on porcelain. What began as an early fascination developed into a dedicated artistic practice focused on exploring the material and its possibilities. She undertook formal training in porcelain painting with Portuguese artist Felipe Pereira and German artist Melanie Foster, while continuing her studies with internationally acclaimed artists from Italy, Switzerland, France, and South Korea.

Her artistic formation has been enriched by international training and study in France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, and the United States. Drawing on the refined traditions of European porcelain craftsmanship—particularly those of Limoges, Sèvres, and Meissen—she brings classical techniques into dialogue with contemporary approaches to form, surface, and composition.

Working with fine porcelain, cobalt pigments, precious metals, 24-karat gold, lustres, carved surfaces, and relief techniques, Alblooshi continually expands the material’s aesthetic and technical vocabulary. Her practice moves between meticulously hand-painted works and experimental sculptural installations that engage light, shadow, texture, and space as integral elements of the composition.

Rooted in her Emirati identity, her work draws upon the architectural heritage of the UAE, desert landscapes, indigenous flora, and shared cultural memory. Through abstraction, restrained compositions, and contemporary reinterpretations of traditional motifs, she creates a nuanced dialogue between past and present, exploring belonging, transformation, and cultural continuity.

Her recent sculptural projects position porcelain as both an architectural and conceptual medium, extending its significance beyond traditional decorative associations. These works investigate the tension between fragility and permanence, often incorporating suspended forms, perforations, and precisely calibrated lighting to produce immersive visual experiences.

Alblooshi has participated in exhibitions and international art events, receiving recognition for her practice, including an award at an art exhibition in Brescia, Italy. Her artistic journey and work have also been featured in publications across the UAE.

Alongside her independent practice, she is committed to preserving and sharing the knowledge of porcelain craftsmanship through workshops, cultural collaborations, and educational initiatives.

At the heart of Alblooshi’s practice is a vision of porcelain as a vital contemporary fine-art medium—one capable of uniting exceptional craftsmanship, cultural memory, and artistic innovation.
